Visiting the Three Pagoda Pass in Kanchanaburi
This pass with the three white pagodas is at the Thailand-Myanmar border in Kanchanaburi province west of Bangkok. Kanchanaburi is a true "green" province with lots of spectacular rivers, waterfalls, caves, forests, dam's and reservoirs and great outdoors.

Along the road to the three pagoda pass is the spectacular Erawan Waterfall a prime day trip from Bangkok.
The road from Bangkok to Myanmar runs right through Kanchanaburi province to the 3 Pagoda Pass at the Thailand-Myanmar border.

This crossing was for hundreds of years the virtual door where the Burmese came in bringing the war to Thailand. Therefore the Three Pagoda Pass on the border from Thailand to Myanmar is a politically very sensitive place and if something happen -from time to time both armies exchange fire - sometimes the Thai and sometimes the Myanmar's close the Three Pagoda Pass but in the last dozen of years (2009 backwards) no hostility were happen anymore.

For tourists, nature lover, bird watcher and travelers the area around the three Pagodas Pass on the border from Thailand to Myanmar in the west of Kanchanaburi province is a real attraction.

A important border pass between Thailand and Myanmar

The bamboo houses cut out from the jungle with their thatch roofs fit the Kanchanaburi style perfect. After we pass the town of Sangklaburi the road even gets more curves since it is not easy to construct them here in the wilderness between Thailand and Myanmar there is whether knowledge how to do nor the money needed.

The road runs on the slope of Khao Laem reservoir in Sangklaburi district and opens the panorama into a beautiful landscape. Most people living here are Thais and Myanmar Karen and they had a very time in the past when EGAT which is the Thai electric generation company which built the dams in Kanchanaburi and compensated them very badly for the area they had to leave when the water filled up the two reservoirs one is the Srinakarin Dam and the other the beforementioned Khao Laem.

The minority groups which are called "Hill Tribe People" in Thailand such es Karen and Karenni have a living here. Sometimes they get some help from overseas charity companies such as Architects For Aid, a UK charity support group to building projects internationally.
