Visiting Thailand Day & Night

Visiting Thailand for having a good time

Old Siam and new Thailand
Thailand has approximately 63 million inhabitants and lots of tourists for short and long stay in good hotels apartments villas and other accommodations.

About 80% of People are Thai / Buddhist, 10% Chinese / Taoists, 3% Malay / Muslims and the rest are minorities. This is among other Mon, Khmer and various so-called hill tribes which are Karen, Lisu, and others.

Ethnic Thais are basically Chinese who came about thousand years ago from the today area of Yunnan after they got split with the Shan. Siam always was a migratory crossroads and got a wide ethnic diversity. There are many people from India, Pakistan, Arab and so called western people (farang). All of them influenced local traditions and cultures over time. Here is Ayutthaya and a look into old Siam.

The weather is usually excellent

At least about 8-9 month per year with full sunshine and clear or partly clear sky, the country is primarily a beach destination. Water born activities are plenty, a Thai beach and some of Phuket beaches are exactly the places where the vacationer from anywhere in the world will enjoy to lay down and get a good Thai beach massage and lots of suns.

Asking what to do in Thailand will uncover that most travelers prefer to laze around at the beach during the day and enjoy a debauched nightlife after.

Some basic parameter of Thailand

Climate weather and temperature: There is endless summer divided into 2 seasons, it's the rainy from around July to November, which is monsoon times with an average temperature from around 24- 28 C. Hot season is the other months with around 30- 35 C. Almost all parts of the country receive some rain throughout the year while higher located areas such as in the north and west get more rain but it won't effect much. Is usually excellent for about 8-9 month per year starting from November to May which is full of the sunshine and clear or partly cloudy sky, the country is a primarily beach, island and "green" destination.

Culture: A strong influences come from India and China but has it's very distinctive characteristics. The original Thai people which are similar to Shan in Myanmar came from China's Yunnan. As elsewhere in Asia people are with very traditional family ties and most are Buddhist. Although in the southern part are plenty of Muslim.

What to wear: Take light wear, since all clothing is quite cheap, it makes sense to go shopping for all what you need after arrival, it might save you overweight costs. Also, shoes and other stuff to wear are cheap.
ATM's: Are almost at every "second corner" in the tourist areas, petrol stations, at the highways, shopping malls, convenience stores and other places, which means no need to take lots of money with you or change money. Just fill up your account and pull the Thai Baht out from the machine, be careful about the frequency since they charge a fee for each transaction which your bank will finally deduct, all bank HQ are concentrated in the capital.

Here is also an excellent place to open a foreign currency account, nobody will find your hard earned money afterward, just take a debit card, there are many different answers when you ask yourself, what to do in Thailand?

Visa: Better try http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123

Now they changed again, the best is to have a look here: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123 but since also this is not often up to date a mess could wait at the border. If you intend for a longer stay have a look.

Travel in Thailand
The Thai have after Singapore the best road network in southeast Asia - ASEAN - which allows speed and comfort over long distances.

Unfortunately, since about 5 years (now 2016) they almost won’t do any serious maintenance anymore which let the whole deteriorate and especially the surfaces brake, they just don’t know how to do that and also build the structure underneath not professional there is a lot of amateurism around because of a lack of Ususually education.  For other about the country of smile read this.

Daytrips are usually convinientlly because the distances are not as far since hotels and accommodations are plenty

History Photos
This is about the social cultural literary and urban life of the past. Although most writings may contain references to the present in part to provide contrast between two very different eras in history.

The core of each essay deals with an earlier time when the Tai world functioned as a multitude of units stretched across the Mekong region and down the Chao Phraya River Valley complex, with extensions east into the uplands of the Red and Black Rivers and west to the Upper Salween, Irrawaddy, and the Brahmaputra where the Tai-Ahom, the least known of the Tai peoples, live.

Much of the region is mountainous with average altitudes ranging from 10,000 feet in the Yunnan Plateau, where few Tai live, dropping to 6,000 to 3,000 feet in the Shan plateau, along the Red and Black rivers, and some areas in the Lao Plateau, decreasing still further, from 3,000 to 600 feet along the Lower Upper Mekong, the Upper Chao Phraya Valley complex (the Ping, Wang, Yom, and Nan rivers) and the Phetchabun Range. The main Chao Phraya Valley, the Khorat Plateau, and the Middle Mekong Basin are below 600 feet in altitude.

The Mekong River is one of the world's longest, running for 2,795 miles from Tibet, through Southwestern China, and on to form the modern boundaries of Burma and Laos, then Thailand and Laos. When it reaches modem Cambodia and Vietnam it begins to divide, creating new channels, as it moves still farther south and east to exit in the South China Sea. Because of the length of the Mekong and the diversity of peoples who live in its basin.

The Tai are an ethnic family who lives in Mainland Southeast Asia and Southern China. The term "Tai" refers both to the general family and to a large number of its members who live in the uplands and along the rivers in that area. The aspirated form, "Thai," is usually used for the Tai-Siamese or Central Thai of the Chao Phraya Valley, as well as the inhabitants of the modern nation-state of Thai land.

This is a great Asian metropolis with a new airport of modern architecture which Suvarnabhumi is.

Almost all roads and flights go through the capital. Huge shopping malls and a relatively new elevated train system together with an excellent underground train system took out some of the traffic problems of the past, but for sure not enough.

Bangkok is probably your first stop in the country with a vibrant nightlife and shopping there is legendary, for sure one of the best in the world, also almost everything produced in the country is quite cheap (to US-EU) standard. Prices are quite below Singapore prices. BTS Bangkok is the premier means to navigate through this megapolis with more than 10 million people  is the commercial hub and is more or less located in the centre of the country.

There are plenty of sightseeing spots like Wat Phra Kaew – a very famous monastery and temple, Chinatown is a legend of its own. At the northern greater city boundary is Ayutthaya, the legendary old capital of Siam and Thailand.

There are huge dams and reservoirs, great river resorts, floating villages on the lakes, incredible waterfalls rivers for jungle rafting and other Thailand tours. All these scenic areas are usually integrated into a Thailand national park and there are over 60. You could visit the areas via a Thailand tour package or on an individual trip.

A very particular holiday subject is trekking, hiking and river rafting is around Kanchanaburi and from there to the west towards the three pagoda pass.

Everyone know the “Bridge over the River Kwai”

Located in Kanchanaburi town. Nearby is one of the most exciting waterfall on planet earth, the Erawan Falls. Erawan waterfall is a real highlight of any Thailand holiday, not the biggest waterfall but the location and the scenery of the waterfall running down mountains over 7 level are real great. Other places to visit are for almost every taste and wallet size. Whether you're a tourist, traveler, backpacker or whatever, you never get bored on Thailand vacation.

The Erawan Falls

Close to the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi Province is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Thailand.

It is only about 3 hours and that means if the weather is fine the sun out and weekend or holiday, around the National Park it's like Bangkok rush hour Friday late afternoon.

Behind the entrance and after a short walk the lower level the waterfall becomes visible. The water with a beautiful emerald shade splash down limestone formations over seven levels, a 1.5 kilometers trail in a tropical jungle runs beside the waterfall all the way up to the top. Usually, visitors just have a look for the lower 3 or 4 levels of the Erawan falls.

If you are not in the very good physical condition you have a problem to do the climb up the trail. There are even very steep stairs between the limestone boulders. On the trek up you pass jungle giants and bamboo thickets. On the upper level the water runs over a huge boulder, giving the impression of a three-headed elephant, this is why the waterfall’s name is Erawan, the Hindu elephant god.

Loei is a charming holiday destination, sandwiched between the Phetchabun mountain range and Mekong River. It's green, quiet and far away with tropical mountain forest, lakes, National Parks, waterfalls, all agriculture, no industry. On the road to Loei is the Dan Sai Resort, a nice place from where the countryside can be explored. At Loei are also several good hotels and at every hotel, the first question is, you like a massage? You know which one?

Easily accessible by air, bus and car over a very winding roads through a beautiful countryside create a good mood because it is easy to reach all places. The nearest great outdoor is Phu Rua national park on the way from Dan Sai to Loei town. The highest peak is 1,365 meters and in the “winter” month a chilly wind can bring the temperature down to below zero degrees centigrade.

Usually, no chilly winds are around and a terraced campground under pine trees invites to get your tent up and explore the beautiful surrounding. You can get out for a hike along markers that contain information about the forest. The area is dotted with pine trees. A light breeze of early summer winds might tickles your nose with a fragrance of wildflowers.

Merry Christmas in Thailand

Pha Lee Rock Garden shows surrealistic rock formation

somehow like the limestone around Phang Nga in southern Thailand, further up is a so called Stone Forest with more wild stone sculptures. In early summer wild orchids can be found around here. Up to Pha Loan Noi viewpoint people can drive with the car and do a short walk, its worth it, the panorama is a breathtaking experience.

During the rainy season

Huai Phai waterfall, 2.5 kilometres from the visitor center carries enough water for a exceptional splash or –namtok- as Thai call a waterfall. The limestone formations of Suan Hin Pha Ngam stone forest have been formed to all kind of abstract shapes. Typical limestone caves like Orathai Cave and Broken Heart Cave could be explored. Four park lodges for around 300 baht per head for five persons a night over a very basic stay. Campgrounds with showers are near the visitor center, the best actually is to stay in a hotel in Loei town and do the short ride to the National Park, it prevents from negative experience.

At Loei city

(Loei is spoken as Loi) take the road to the north to have a look for the Mekong River a huge river as you can see at the pictures below, the road runs along the river and opens up great panoramas when driving eastwards. The problem with the Mekong River is, the Chinese at the upper reaches of the Mekong River have been and are building several huge dams for power stations and using the water for irrigation projects. The result is that almost no real ships can cross the river because the river is to shallow, also fishes are gone etc.

Since the Chinese destroyed most of their own nature in the past, they do it now on places where this affects other. That's the some in the high mountains of the Myanmar Himalayas where hordes of Chinese cut too much trees, they are not allowed to do so in Myanmar but they bribe the local administration, cut take the trees and run big profits are made since they even sell the coniferous trees in south Korea.

A great tour I made was from Sukhothai to Phitsanulok after taking the 21 route to the north east and to the Mekong best to be made by the end of autumn because at that time the river and waterfalls have enough water for a good optical feeling. Why? Rivers and waterfalls without liquid are not particular interesting. The area in the north is slowly coming together although there is still a deep trench dividing north and south.
