Sisowath Quay

Enjoy the Tonle Sap Quay

What to do in the Cambodian Capital?
Further down is the Royal Palace , the National Museum and the university of art plus many creative souvenir shops.

The crowd is out on the large flat concrete space between the road and the river. Behind are dozens of restaurants, hotels and bars in the side streets, the hottest is the 136th street with plenty the of bars and bar girls.

Since it’s cool in the evening people have a walk around, some lovers sit on the benches at the river banks and promise endless love, wonder how long that last.

Another wander along the Tonle Sap waterfront and some guys try to pull foreigners into a discussion with the idea to ask for money. Some river vessels carry freight and passengers up and downstream and a double decker sightseeing boat move mid-river.

Just sit down in one of the restaurants along the Tonle Sap river and enjoy the fresh breeze which comes over Sisowath Quay is one of the most interesting things too.

In the evening at around 8pm nightlife with pretty Khmer girls start at 136th street.

Sisowath Quay is a Paris Style boulevard and was the previous "Karl Marx Quay" The Tonle Sap River is in front of it which is a strange water body flowing  sometimes up and also down. At the promenade along the water is plenty to see and even more fresh air to breath.

A guide to the New Royal Palace
Photos of Sisowath Quay
Why new? Because the old one is in Angkor and in bad conditions. I just was wondering why they kept the place in a strong yellow light, maybe to emphasize the golden color elements, anyway an exotic hall in style. Maybe they can give a suitable chair to the guardian the white plastic stuff doesn't fit a palace.

The king is seen here very rarely the place is only used for some official state occasions. The whole area integrates large green landscaping elements it is not so commercialized as the Sanam Luang Complex in Bangkok opposite the National  Museum where one can even feel all is done to free the tourists from their money.

The new Royal Palace seen from Sisowath Quay along the Tonle Sap is an impressive construction with some French elements in it and a very clear Khmer design.

The Khmer world of that time ruled large parts of today ASEAN

Very close to the palace  is the National Museum which is not as richly stocked as similar places elsewhere in the world that has its reason in looting the country over centuries. Even today precious Khmer antiques can be found for sale in Singapore and London. Actually, because the country is still quite poor artifacts still find the way out and people make huge profits with it.

A Khmer Kings Palace

Here is a visual of an ancient Khmer Ruler, very imaginative and pretty pictures of the King of Angkor.

Full of ancient life at Angkor Wat and "Angkor Thom". A long time ago the king was on an elephant ride, today the tourists are on the beast and the real contemporary kings because they bring the money to make the Khmer happy. To make you visually happy just sit down at a cafe or restaurant along Sisowath Quay and appreciate the view of the Tonle Sap River.

Come to Cambodia and you can feel like a one, keep in mind the country not only Angkor, there are several places like that although not as large, try other things to do e.g. make a trip to Phnom Chisor just about 2 hours south of Phnom Penh. The other tourists everywhere like are the beaches on the South China Sea especially around Sihanoukville but also in Koh Kong and actually along the whole coast and on the islands.
